EGA - Through the Needle’s Eye

Earlier this year I decided to enter a juried show with the Embroidery Guild of America. Not knowing a lot about the exhibit I startled planning two entries. The first is “My Grandmother’s Scissors Keep.” It holds 5 pairs of scissors in the shape of a polygon with the flowers my grandmother had in her yard. The second project is a “Pixie Door Garden.” I have seen these small doors made with wood and decided I could make them with needle and thread. It is a stumpwork aka a 3D project. There are 3 tree trunks with doors, a creek with a bridge and many flowers. There are lights so the pixies can find their way home at night.  I submitted pictures and the projects were accepted for the “Through the Needle’s Eye” exhibit.

The virtual exhibit to debut  Boston Seminar in September 2023 and online. The entries will be on display in Louisville, Kentucky from July through December 2023. More information for the “Through the Needle’s Eye” exhibit can will be available at http://EGA USA.org/TNE.

I will share pictures after the virtual exhibit begins.

Layers of Leaves Wreath

It has been a very very long time since I posted anything, but today I decided to share what I have been working on.

Needlepoint Now magazine has the Layers of Leaves in their current issues and will continue until the end of the year. There are the instructions for 10 leaves in each issue.

I decided to stitch mine on 28 count linen instead of 18 count canvas. I am attaching 32 gauge wire around each leaf with buttonhole stitch with 2 strands of DMC. This way I won’t have to do any finishing when I have all of the leaves ready to attach to the wreath.  The above picture are my first 20 leaves.

The picture below is a picture of the finished wreath as shown in the magazine.
